My heart was right there with you as we experienced something similar (not cancer, but also ended with a final goodbye) with another "soul-pup". I'm not gonna lie, I don't think I've ever cried so hard. My heart still aches when I think of her. I have even slipped and called Willow by her name - Osage. I wrote a story called The Last Goodbye about that experience.
These dogs are sent to us at specific times for specific reasons. They are kindred spirits in my thinking.
I have a Pit that has suffered from cancer many times.
The first three times were from mast cell cancer grade 4 which required surgery followed by chemotherapy all in the space of 18 months.
After “doing my own research”, a phrase despised by doctors and veterinarians alike, we changed his diet. We gave him only limited ingredient foods and added some supplements.
He has had 4 mast cell tumors since, all low grade requiring only removal, no chemotherapy.
It’s been a couple of years since he had any but he appears to have a new one beneath his eye and we will be taking him to the specialist this week. If it just needs removal, that would be great! If they recommend chemo, I will again do my own research as there are many repurposed treatments that don’t make the specialists rich but make the patients healthy.
Prayers for your sweet boxer. We love our fur babies for sure.
