When I retired nearly two years ago, I told myself that I would start writing again. After all, if for no other reason, I needed to put to rest my wife’s judgement that I was “The Writer Than Never Writes”, a subject of one of my earlier posts on this site:
https://knash.substack.com/p/the-writer-who-never-writes
The first year of retirement, I made very little effort to write. I started this Substack and fooled around on it a little bit ,not applying much effort to my endeavors. I probably spent more time reading the works of other writers than creating my own. In defense of that, I have discovered some wonderful creative writers and some fine independent journalists that I highly recommend. Whether you are looking for pure escapism, spiritual reinforcement, human interest stories, or independent takes on the news of the day, these folks/sites deliver in spades:
The Honest Broker (Culture and Music)
Mickey Z (Human Interest/Culture)
Naomi Wolf (Human Interest/Current Events)
Cork Hutson (Spirituality, Human Interest, Fiction)
Coffee and Covid (Current Events)
Seeking the Narrow (Fiction, Spirituality, Music)
The second year of retirement has seen me settle into a more productive routine and a true rekindling of my love for writing. The encouragement I have received from many of you has helped fuel the fires of creativity and the passion that I once felt for writing. I truly appreciate your support!
So what does the third year of retirement bring? There is going to be more content and a committed approach to publishing in the coming year. I have created three new Substacks and, as you have probably noticed, changed the name of this site. This site has, overall, been the home of human interest type stories so I felt the “The Fabric of Life” was a more fitting title. There will be fresh content published every Sunday morning.
My new sites are shown below and there will be no content published every Sunday for all of them except, “A Story To Tell”. Since I haven’t worked on fictional storytelling in a while, I plan to warm into that site with new content published on the first of every month.
Where I Stand (Current Events)
The Spiritual Walk (Living with the Lord)
Subscriptions to all of my sites are always free so I would invite you to subscribe to any of the new sites that might interest you - understanding that spirituality and news are not everyone’s cup of tea. In all transparency, I have transferred some of my current subscribers to the new sites already if I thought you might be interested. Simply unsubscribe, with no hard feelings, when you get the email notification if you do not wish to receive positing from the new sites.
I truly hope everyone is starting 2024 on a positive note and look forward to sharing the journey with you. Writers love feedback and seeing their readership grow so, if you enjoy what you read, don’t forget to hit the “like” button, comment, and share with anyone else that you think might enjoy.
Haven't read anything yet; recovering from shoulder replacement after a fall. Looking from the outside you are right on schedule to start writing again and find enjoyment in life and retirement as you go on. I know I will enjoy following your stories.
